Electric Superintendent

Mt. Lake Municipal Utilities (population 2,100).  Progressive community located in SW Minnesota. Candidates for the Electric Superintendent position will have a diploma in electric utility, experience in power plant operation and repair specifically diesel engines, construction and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution systems, one year of electric utility management experience and a valid Class A driver’s license.  A Class B Minnesota Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and 2nd Class C Boiler License within six months of hire date. Under general supervision of the City Administrator, the Electric Utility Department Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the Electric Utility Department’s operations; directing department personnel; prepares and administers the budget; complying with appropriate local, state and federal safety rules, regulation and statutes; preparing all required reports; and overseeing the Conservation Improvement Plan (CIP).  Applicant must have proven leadership and communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with all city departments and a broad range of customers/residents. Public Works Director

City of Staples (3,146). Responsible for the coordination and administration of all utilities and public works functions including planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating the operation of the wastewater treatment facilities, collection/disposal systems, water production/distribution systems, electric distribution systems, streets, and buildings.  Responsible for Public Works budgets and assistance with Capital Improvement Planning.  Responsible for carrying out directives and policies established by the City Administrator, Council and Public Utilities Commission.  Supervision of nine full-time employees and additional part-time employees. Desired minimum qualifications include a degree from a four-year college or technical training in related field and seven years progressively responsible related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Experience in electric distribution system management and development desired. General Manager

Austin Utilities (Austin, MN) and its Board of Commissioners are seeking qualified applicants for the position of General Manager. Austin Utilities is a community –owned, not-for-profit water, electric and nature gas supplier.  The General Manager is responsible for providing visionary leadership to and for the Utilities, encouraging strategic and long-term thinking that promotes municipal utilities services. The General Manager will further be required to build coalitions and serve as the “face” of the Utilities providing vision, support and management of the Austin Utilities and its community.  Internally, the General Manager must be first and foremost an effective steward of the Utilities’ resources – personnel, financial and political capital. S/he must be a strong manager and team leader who equips and empowers her/his staff to effectively accomplish their objectives and fulfill their professional responsibilities – individually and collectively. It is also expected that the General Manager will be a strong and active listener as well as a trust builder, fostering unity within the Utilities and effective staff utilization and development.

        Job Requirements

§  A bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, engineering or closely related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the characteristics, qualifications and knowledge required to meet the desired roles and responsibilities.  Relevant experience of 10 years and increasing responsibility is required. 

§  Previous experience or knowledge of publicly owned utilities and/or working with elected officials is desirable.

§  Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills are required.

§  Key strengths include ethics, integrity, and proven leadership.

§  Ability to formulate and coordinate association positions on state, regional and national issues of interest to the Association, and to lobby those positions.

Utilities Superintendent

Electric Division Manager

Moorhead Public Service (MPS) is now accepting applications for Electric Division Manager.  The Electric Division Manager is responsible for the operation of the utility’s Electric Division.  MPS proudly serves over 16,000 electric customers. MPS’ total load is comprised of approximately 36 percent residential, 6 percent small commercial/industrial, and 53 percent large commercial/industrial. MPS’ top seven customers comprise approximately 30 percent of MPS’ total electric sales. MPS purchases 52 percent of its power from Western Area Power Administration, 47 percent from Missouri River Energy Services, and generates approximately one percent from two municipally-owned wind turbines located in Moorhead. MPS receives its power over 24 miles of 115kV transmission lines operating in a double-breaker, closed-loop design. MPS has five distribution substations and 509 miles of distribution lines, of which 75 percent is underground. The Electric Division Manager reports to the General Manager of MPS. Ideal candidates for the Electric Division Manager position would have at least ten years of experience in the electric utility field. Applicants should have proven expertise in both technical and administrative ability in positions of progressively greater responsibility. The Electric Division Manager supervises and coordinates staff regarding design, operation, and expansion of MPS’ electric system. Ideal candidates would offer a broad skill set that includes comprehension of the “big picture” of electric utility operations. TEMPORARY GROUNDWORKER, ELECTRIC DEPARTMENT

Two positions available. SALARY:  $14.00/hr. May 1st - October 15th, 2010.  Hours may vary between five 8-hour days or four 10-hour days, some overtime may be required. Open until filled. DUTIES:  Ability to follow oral or written instructions; Safely assist crews in the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of underground distribution, street light and traffic light systems; Ability to do heavy manual labor, including operating shovels, jackhammers, manually pulling wire, etc.; Ability to operate heavy equipment such as diggers, trenchers, bucket trucks, etc.; Install cabinets, conduit and cables in underground trenches, etc.; Make electrical terminations both primary and secondary; Work well with City employees, workers from other utilities, customers and the general public; Work overtime in times of demand;  Adhere to all City policies, procedures and safety regulations. Outdoor work in all weather conditions often near energized equipment.  This position will be very limited to any energized work, if any.    Regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, jump, reach, climb, etc.  Must use hands to operate tools, machinery, etc.  Regularly required to lift over 100 lbs.  Ability to operate various hand and power tools, volt meters, bucket truck, trench packer, air compressor, vactor truck, concrete saws, skid steers, boom truck, diggers and trenchers, and more.  Must wear appropriate safety items when performing safety sensitive duties.  Proper PPE will be provided.  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  High school graduate or GED.  Completion of 1st year of vocational training in the field of Power Lineworker or at least one year experience in power line maintenance and construction.  Must have a valid Class A CDL with airbrakes, or ability to acquire one within 30 days of hire.  Possess physical strength, flexibility and mental capacity to safely perform the duties of the position. Energy Services Specialist

Waverly Light and Power located in Waverly, Iowa, is seeking an Energy Services Specialist. This position will be responsible for the development of reports, correspondence, and similar products for energy efficiency and renewable programs; the preparation of energy efficiency plan tracking, goals, and filing of information with the Iowa Utilities Board; assist in planning and implementation of projects such as energy efficiency and renewable incentive programs; and conduct cost/benefit analyses for current and potential DSM programs. ACCA Manual J and Manual D certifications required within 6 months of employment; formal experience in renewable energy, DSM, or energy services with an extensive work background in a utility preferred; additional training at a vocation school or university with course work in statistics, communications, marketing, engineering, or economics a plus. 2.4 KV substation transformer

Truman Public Utilities (TPU) has a GE 2500 KVA rated, 69 KV to 2.4 KV (Delta/Delta) Substation Transformer for sale. Unit impedance is 7.2 Percent. The unit still sits in place at the TPU Substation. The reason the unit is available is that TPU has change the substation voltage from 2.4 KV to 12.47 KV. TPU commission will consider offers.
