MMUA, along with our partners, American Public Power Association (APPA) and Minnesota Rural Electric Association (MREA), is pleased to offer the 2017 Substation School.

Substation School offers useful instruction by well-qualified presenters. Participants will also tour Ziegler's power distribution equipment, as well as the newest Shakopee Public Utilities substation!

You may also want to consider coming a day early to attend the PCB Management & Recordkeeping Workshop.

Who Should Attend?

This school can benefit individuals currently working in/on a substation, as well as other personnel who are learning and seek to know more about substations.

Substation Transformer Addition

Hear first hand what a project of this magnitude entails—50 MVA addition of a new, state-of-the-art Transformer into an existing substation.

Tour — Shakopee Public Utilities' Substation
Led by Shakopee Public Utilities Staff
This is your opportunity to tour Shakopee's new state-of-the-art facility. Hard hat, safety glasses and safety footwear required!

The 'Ins and Outs' of Substations
Dave Thom, East Central Energy
Presented from a lineman's perspective, participants fully engage during this hands-on demonstration of various tools, hardware and SCADA systems.

What to Bring

Because some of the training will take place outside of the classroom, participants should bring the following items:

  • Hard Hat
  • Safety Glasses
  • Safety Footwear
  • Appropriate Work Clothes
  • Appropriate Outerwear for the Weather

Certificates

Participants earn hours for attendance and a certificate of achievement will be available online. Participants should watch for an email notification from MMUA.

Registration Fee

$440 per student for members; $690 per student for non-members. All fees increase $50 on March 15, 2017. Deadline to register is March 24, 2017.

Registration fee includes: Tuition, materials and supplies, lunch on Wednesday, refreshment breaks and certificate of achievement. Participants are responsible for their own transportation and lodging.

Cancellations/Refunds

MMUA will issue a refund (less $25 per person) for cancellation of an advance registration, provided MMUA is notified by 4:30 pm on March 24, 2017. Sorry, no refunds issued for cancellations after March 24.
