Understanding what electrical work can and cannot be done by a non-electrician operator or maintenance technician can present a challenge. Are you confident that the work you are assigned—or that you are assigning—can safely and legally be performed? Recognizing your limitations is the key to ensuring everyone’s safety.
About Our Instructor
Mike Johnson is a skilled Master Electrician and worked as a union electrician for 10 years before joining Austin Utilities. He has been with Austin Utilities serving as their Master Electrician for 7 years. His duties at Austin include building and maintaining the utility's control cabinets, programming and maintaining the water distribution electrical system, integrating the water supply system with the utility's SCADA system, and ensuring backup generators at well houses are always at the ready.
This workshop includes classroom and hands-on instruction/demonstration. Participants will also tour the Marshall Municipal Utilities Water Treatment Plant. Topics to be covered include:
Skill competency will be evaluated for each participant. Upon successful completion of course, participant will receive a certificate identifying specific electrical job tasks qualified to do; with the caveat of any regulatory/legal limitations.
This course is intended for water/wastewater operators, technicians and support staff.

Members: $300 per person
Non-members: $450 per person
All fees increase $50 on January 17. Deadline to register is January 27 or when full.
Registration fee includes tuition for instruction, breaks and lunch during workshop, attendance certificate. Participants are responsible for their own transportation and lodging.
Please note: Registration limited to the first 30 registrants. Priority will be given to members.
MMUA will issue a refund on advance registrations (minus $30 processing fee per person) provided MMUA is notified by 4:30 pm on January 27, 2022. No refunds after January 27.
