Three-Phase Transformer Connections

The Transformer School offers the ultimate combination of classroom and hands-on training that can help improve your understanding of the inner workings of a transformer, appropriate installations and applications for maximum reliability.

In addition, we offer a Pre-Conference covering basic single-phase transformer connections and theory. (Separate registration required.)

Our Instructor, Scott Meinecke, began his career as a lineworker. He has a true passion for the craft that is evident when he instructs! Scott has a knack for explaining complicated principals so that they are understandable, and attendees will especially appreciate the many opportunities to apply the information presented--from troubleshooting to testing the bank of miniature transformers. This is hands-on learning at its best!

What You Will Learn

The three-phase course will start with the basics of transformers, including turns ratios, polarities, calculations, connections, and troubleshooting. Participants will learn about the basic three-phase systems with some basic phasor diagrams and explain the relationship of the phasor to the transformer itself.

In the hands-on portion of the course, participants will work with miniature transformers that are energized and will blow fuses, in order to experience what happens when something is wired incorrectly.

The class will continue to build on the miniature transformer banks and work on troubleshooting. Additionally, they will discuss motor rotation as it relates to three-phase systems; as well as ways to prevent voltage surge when switching a three-phase bank.

Upon completion of the Three-Phase Transformer Connections class, participants should have a good understanding of the following topics, related to transformers:

Three-Phase Troubleshooting

Certificate of Achievement

A certificate of achievement will be provided showing the hours of attendance acquired. Certificates will be emailed after the course.

Registration Fees

Member Rate: $465 per person
Non-Member Rate: $690 per person

All fees increase $50 on November 13, 2020.
Deadline to register is November 23.

Registration fee includes course tuition, materials, Thursday lunch, refreshment breaks and a certificate of achievement. If registering for the Pre-Conference, lunch on Wednesday is also included.

Cancellations / Refunds

MMUA charges a $30 processing fee per person for registrations cancelled on/by November 23, 2020. MMUA must be notified by 4:30 pm on November 23 to qualify.
