Legislative Conference

Strength in numbers

One of the reasons MMUA was formed was to represent the members' interests in St. Paul. The association hired its first staff in the mid-1970s, primarily because of the need to change state law to allow municipal utilities to benefit from economies of scale in the industry. The issues are no less important today, but it sure seems like there are more of them!

MMUA’s Legislative Conference is the primary opportunity for municipal utilities to inform and influence state lawmakers. It seems every session is a busy one for municipal utilities, and we have to work hard to make sure our voice is heard above the noise of long and sometimes contentious sessions. Any public official will tell you having people in the room gets their attention.  A strong turnout ensures that our message is heard.

Our 2024 conference will be held on March 19-20, 2024. See website for more information.

Those interested in being a meeting presenter should review our Policy on Educational Content.
