Kos Named Next MMUA Chief Executive Officer

August 12, 2021

MMUA President Mark Nibaur announced this morning (Aug. 12) that Karleen Kos will be the new MMUA chief executive officer.

The recruitment process included reviewing 30 plus applicants, narrowing the field to the top eight. Four people were interviewed; the top two advanced for full board interviews and deliberations. At the end of this lengthy course, Karleen Kos was offered and has accepted the CEO position to lead our association.

Kos brings to MMUA over 20 years of senior leadership in the operation of a variety of non-profit associations.

“Karleen is excited and looking forward to joining our great team at MMUA,” Nibaur said. “Her leadership and visionary skills will help lead our association into the future.”

The plan calls for Kos to start at MMUA on September 27. While final transition plan details are being worked out, Nibaur said MMUA will maintain communications as plans finalize.

Kos will be reaching out to the membership soon after she arrives, as she has expressed a desire to meet or speak with as many of members as she can.

“Our membership is the foundation of MMUA, so please share your thoughts, ideas and concerns with her, on our industry and association expectations,” Nibaur said.

Nibaur acknowledged the efforts of many people through the process.

“I want to say thank you to the MMUA staff for its patience, support and input through this process,” Nibaur said. “I want to thank Debra Englund, HRExperiseBP, for leading and managing the CEO search process. We wouldn’t be at this point without her industry /process knowledge. Debra is a professional and I was proud to work alongside her through this process.

“Lastly I want to thank the Board Search Committee (Mark Nibaur, Jenny Palmer, Don Martodam and Julie Kennedy) and the full Board for patience, trust, engagement and diligence through this process. The board fully embraced the importance of this CEO search process and was engaged and professional throughout the entire project.”

If you are attending the MMUA Summer Conference, Karleen will be joining us on August 18.

“I am excited for MMUA’s future,” Nibaur said, “and look forward to watching the organization expand and grow!
