SMMPA, Partners Dedicate Lemond Solar Center

July 14, 2017

An open house was held at the Lemond Solar Center, on the outskirts of Owatonna, the afternoon of Thursday, July 13.

The 5-megawatt (ac) project is owned by Enerparc Inc., which sells all the output to the Southern Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (SMMPA) through a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement. SMMPA's first utility-scale solar project was made possible by the collaboration of the agency's 18 municipally-owned, non-profit utility members and their customers. The project will initially be used by SMMPA members' Solar Choice community solar program.

SMMPA also partnered with Central Municipal Power Agency/Services (CMPAS), which will buy 280 kilowatts of output.

The project commenced commercial operation June 29. It covers 35-acres and includes 20,250 panels.
