Category: Technical Schools and Workshops

Meter School features two course options: beginner/intermediate and advanced. Each course offers a combination of classroom and hands-on exercises where participants will work at the metering stations with direct instructor oversight and feedback.

NOTE: Members of MREA need to register through MREA.

Beginner/intermediate track

The beginner/intermediate track is aimed at personnel with little experience with electric meters. Instruction builds on the pre-conference workshop and will include more hands-on training.

Advanced track

The advanced track is intended for those who have working knowledge of meters/metering. The course combines in-depth instruction with practical hands-on exercises that simulate scenarios that could occur at any utility.

Working in small groups, the advanced track will focus on troubleshooting a variety of challenging metering setups, then applying load to determine if correctly configured.

Topics to be covered

  • Why we have electric meters
  • Single phase meters and meter forms
  • Current transformers and voltage transformers
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Electric meter safety
  • Tools needed for working with electric meters
  • Mounting electric meter sockets
  • Single phase socket wiring
  • Troubleshooting electric installations
  • Theft of electric power

In addition, we offer a pre-conference workshop covering basic metering. The workshop is an ideal introductory course for those with little metering experience or as a "refresher" on basic metering. For maximum benefit, consider registering for both the pre-conference workshop and the Meter School. Separate registration is required.
