Electrical Distribution System Engineer

This position plays a key role in planning, designing, and improving ERMU’s electric system -from supporting substation operations to utilizing advanced metering and GIS technologies. What You’ll Be Doing
System Planning & Reliability
- Develop and maintain system planning studies for load growth, power quality, and protection coordination.
- Analyze system data using AMI and GIS tools to identify trends and recommend improvements.
- Track and report system reliability metrics.
System Operations & Maintenance
- Support construction projects and maintain system documentation.
- Assist in the operation of SCADA, OMS, and substation control systems.
- Collaborate on outage response, system testing, and maintenance planning.
System Design & Customer Coordination
- Contribute to the design of new extensions, upgrades, and system improvements.
- Prepare project estimates and assist with electric and water system mapping.
- Serve as a point of contact for customers, contractors, and property owners.
Cross-Department Support
- Assist with storm response and outage restoration.
- Provide technical analysis and reporting to management.
- Contribute to a collaborative and safety-first work culture.
What You Bring to the Table
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
- Two (2) years of related engineering experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within two years of hire.
- Valid Minnesota Driver’s License.
- Strong understanding of electric distribution systems, substations, and GIS.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn specialized software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience with SEL, OSI SCADA, Itron MV90, and/or ESRI software.
- Knowledge of distribution energy resources and NERC compliance.
Compensation
- Full Pay Range: $50.56 – $65.84 per hour
- Anticipated Hiring Range: $50.56 – $57.70 per hour
Pay is dependent on qualifications and experience.
