Every year there are thousands of electrical physical security incidents reported to the Electricity Information Sharing and Analysis Center, affecting local utilities across the country. There are thousands of additional physical security breaches at water and wastewater facilities, city offices, and storage warehouses. Utilities are also vulnerable to cybersecurity breaches, sometimes leading to destruction of assets and stoppage of service. To maintain the characteristic excellence of hometown utilities, hardening security infrastructure is a must. Attend this workshop to deepen your understanding of trends in security and mitigation tactics.
This workshop will cover:
Michael Coe is the Vice President for Security, Resilience, and Energy Solutions for the American Public Power Association (APPA). He has over two decades of experience in energy policy and communications, most recently serving as the Director of the Defense Critical Energy Infrastructure Program in the Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response within the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). He led programmatic efforts to create the first DOE energy sector risk register, informed by data provided by utility partners and current threat information from the intelligence community.
Mike Willetts is MMUA’s Director of Training and Safety. Mike has over 40 years of experience in the electric utility industry including safety professional, utility management, and journeyman lineworker. For the past 28 years he has been managing and developing MMUA's safety services program.
Mike is a nationally recognized safety profession and an active member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Minnesota Safety Council, National Safety Council, and the Minnesota OSHA Electric Task Force committee.
He is also an active member of the American Public Power Association (APPA) and past chairman of the APPA safety committee, APPA engineering and operations committee, and APPA safety manual revision task force, and vice chair of APPA mutual aid MAC executive committee.
