State Policy: Current Issues

The Minnesota Legislature meets annually, typically holding four to five month sessions.  During the first year of the biennium (odd-numbered years), the Legislature is charged with enacting a state budget.  During the second (even-numbered) year, the Legislature's primary focus is passing a capital investment (bonding) bill.  Each session, many bills are introduced that establish new statutes or change existing ones.  Many of these proposed changes would affect MMUA members in various ways.  Each year, the MMUA Government Relations Department identifies these proposals and prepares statements of its official positions.
