Apprentice/Certified Water Plant Operator Watertown Municipal Utilities
Watertown Municipal Utilities in Watertown, South Dakota is accepting applications for a full-time Apprentice/Certified Water Plant Operator.
This position involves hands-on work in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the city’s water treatment plant. You’ll help ensure safe, clean drinking water for our community by operating equipment, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining system performance.
What You’ll Do:
- Operate and maintain water treatment equipment and systems.
- Ensure safe and effective purification of water for public consumption.
- Assist in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues.
- Work independently.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must pass the South Dakota Water Plant Class I certification exam within 6 months of hire.
- Have or obtain a valid South Dakota driver’s license.
- Ability to lift 50–100 pounds.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Preferred: vocational training in mechanical trades and/or experience in water treatment.
Schedule:
- Night shifts on a 7-on / 7-off rotation, with a mix of 8- and 12-hour shifts.
