Utilities Superintendent / Public Works Director
The City of Henning is seeking a Utilities Superintendent/Public Works Director to oversee the operation, maintenance, and construction of the city’s electric, natural gas, water, wastewater, airport, and public works systems. This exempt position reports to the City Council and supervises utility and public works staff and contractors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage daily operations of electric, gas, water, wastewater, streets, parks, buildings, and municipal airport
- Perform and supervise maintenance, construction, inspections, and emergency response
- Oversee snow removal, street maintenance, and seasonal grounds work
- Maintain regulatory compliance, safety programs, manuals, and reporting
- Assist with budgeting, capital improvement planning, and purchasing
- Install, read, and maintain utility meters; respond to service calls
- Ensure employee training, safety compliance, and on-call coverage
Minimum Qualifications:
Licenses:
Valid MN Class A license. Including a CDL or ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment.
Trained and certified in CPR and first aid.
Must pass DOT Drug and Alcohol Test (position is subject to pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing).
Certifications:
Journeyman lineman’s certification. This will directly affect steps in the Step and Grade plan.
Employees will be expected to obtain a Class C water and Class D wastewater license after an appropriate amount of training.
Complete annual trainings. This will directly affect steps in the Step and Grade plan.
