ADA Title II Digital Accessibility
What Minnesota municipal utilities need to know
Digital accessibility is becoming an increasingly important responsibility for Minnesota municipal utilities. Under the US Department of Justice’s updated ADA Title II regulations, state and local government entities must ensure that their web content and mobile applications are accessible to people with disabilities and meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards.
While the federal compliance deadlines have been extended into 2027 and 2028 depending on the size and type of public entity, utilities should not wait to begin preparing. Websites, online bill payment, customer portals, electronic forms, PDFs, maps, videos, public notices, and other digital services may all be part of the accessibility landscape.
This practical webinar is designed specifically for Minnesota municipal utilities and will explain what the new requirements mean, what utilities should be looking at today, and how to develop a manageable plan for addressing accessibility.
What you'll learn:
- The basic Title II digital accessibility requirement
- The types of utility content and systems that may be affected
- The role of WCAG 2.1 Level
- Common accessibility problems
- How to ask better questions of technology vendors
- How to prioritize accessibility work instead of trying to fix everything at once
This webinar is free to all municipal utility personnel as a benefit of your membership with MMUA. Non-members can register for a nominal fee.
MMUA's Director of Organizational Development and Human Resources Shelly Dau will be presenting.
