Leadership transitions are inevitable—and the difference between disruption and long-term strength lies in how intentionally an organization prepares. This webinar introduces leaders and HR professionals to the essential building blocks of effective succession planning.

We’ll explore how leaders and long-tenured team members influence culture, systems, and expectations over time, and how those long-standing patterns shape both the challenges and opportunities that come with personnel changes. Participants will learn how to evaluate the depth of an outgoing team member’s impact, maintain or evolve cultural continuity, and prepare their organizations for the shifts that occur when a new team member steps in, whether it’s a new leader or a line worker, and whether they were promoted from within or hired externally.

Our conversation will encourage organizations to see succession planning not as a transactional replacement exercise but as an act of stewardship. Attendees will leave with practical insights to assess their current leadership landscape, identify organizational vulnerabilities, develop emerging talent, and design transitions that honor past contributions while creating space for growth and innovation.

 Participants will gain:
  • A framework for understanding and assessing an incumbent’s influence over time
  • Tools to prepare both the organization and the successor for transition
  • Strategies for navigating entrenched systems and cultural expectations
  • Insight into how long‑tenured leaders shape identity, stability, and norms
  • Actionable steps to begin or strengthen a sustainable succession planning process
  • Awareness of MMUA leadership development programs that support pipeline building

Participation for members is free; however, advance registration is required.

MMUA's Director of Organizational Development and Human Resources Shelly Dau will be presenting.
