Position: General Manager – Electrical & Water Utility
Location: Delano Municipal Utility, Delano MN

Delano Municipal Utility is seeking an experienced, forward-thinking General Manager to lead our municipally owned Electrical and Water Utility in a fast-growing community. This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-effective utility services while guiding long-term planning, system expansion, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
· Provide strategic leadership and day-to-day management of all electrical and water utility operations.
· Oversee staff, budgeting, capital projects, and system maintenance.
· Oversee all grant activities, including identification, application, compliance, reporting, and renewal.
· Manage bonding requirements for organizational projects, ensuring all documentation, timelines, and regulatory obligations are met
· Plan for and manage infrastructure needs driven by rapid community growth.
· Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
· Develop and implement long-range system upgrades and capacity planning.
· Manage customer service standards, community relations, and board reporting.
· Lead emergency response planning and operational resilience efforts.
· Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in engineering, public administration, business, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
· Minimum 7–10 years of progressively responsible experience in utility operations, engineering, or management.
· Strong knowledge of electrical distribution and water system operations.
· Proven leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
· Experience working with governing boards, regulatory agencies, and community stakeholders.
· Ability to manage budgets, capital projects, and long-term planning initiatives in a growing service area.
