- The City of Detroit Lakes is seeking a full-time Economic Development Director to lead initiatives that promote business growth, attract new investments, and strengthen housing and workforce opportunities throughout the community. This position reports directly to the City Administrator / Public Utilities General Manager and plays a vital role in shaping the city’s economic future. Key responsibilities include conducting market and industry analyses, preparing development agreements, writing and administering grant applications, and coordinating housing and business recruitment efforts. The Director also represents the City of Detroit Lakes at regional and state economic development events, promotes available sites and development opportunities, and maintains online resources supporting the City’s reputation as a progressive, business-friendly community.
Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in public administration, economics, community development, business, or a related field.
- At least three (3) years’ experience in economic or community development, business recruitment, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of financing tools such as tax increment financing (TIF), revolving loan funds, and state or federal grant programs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with the public, elected officials, and the business community.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and GIS software.
- Must possess a valid Minnesota driver’s license or evidence of equivalent mobility.

Salary:

- $90,001.60 ($43.27/hr.) – $121,472.00 ($58.40/hr.), depending on qualifications and experience.
