Journey Line Worker
The City of Lake City is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Journey Line Worker to join our Public Works Electric Department. This position performs essential work to construct, maintain, repair, and improve the City’s overhead and underground electrical distribution systems.
As a Journey Line Worker, you’ll work closely with the Line Foreman, Electric Supervisor, and other electric utility staff to help provide safe and reliable electric service to the Lake City community. This position also participates in emergency response and a rotating on-call schedule.
What You’ll Do
- Construct, maintain, and repair overhead electrical distribution systems
- Install and maintain underground electrical distribution systems
- Set and remove utility poles, string conductors, and install electrical equipment
- Build, replace, and connect transformer banks and customer service connections
- Diagnose and repair electrical outages, service interruptions, and system problems
- Operate bucket trucks, digger derricks, backhoes, payloaders, hotline tools, and testing equipment
- Perform cable splicing, line rebuilding, system conversions, and related utility work
- Respond to emergency service calls and severe weather events
- Assist with the instruction and development of apprentice line workers
- Follow established electrical safety practices, work procedures, and equipment requirements
What We’re Looking For
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate or technical degree with coursework in a line worker curriculum or related field
- Considerable experience in electrical distribution work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of overhead and underground electrical distribution construction, maintenance, and repair
- Ability to safely operate specialized utility vehicles, equipment, tools, and testing devices
- Ability to participate in a rotating on-call schedule and respond to emergency outages
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one within six months of employment
Required Training:
- CPR and First Aid
- Job-related rescue training
- Electrical safety training
