Electric Utility Director Anoka Municipal Utility
Anoka is seeking an experienced, strategic, forward-thinking leader to serve as our Electric Utility Director. In this professional role, you will direct all facets of utility operations; generation, transmission, distribution, planning, regulatory compliance, and customer service, ensuring the utility meets the current demands and is prepared for future challenges (such as renewable integration, grid modernization, and resilience).
Key Responsibilities
- Provide executive leadership and vision for the electric utility’s longterm strategy and day-to-day operations.
- Ensure system reliability, regulatory compliance, safety standards, and cost-effective operations.
- Lead infrastructure investments, capital planning, and modernization projects.
- Develop and manage the annual operating and capital budgets.
- Engage with stakeholders: City Council, Utility Advisory Board, customers, regulators, community, partners.
- Foster a safety culture, continuous improvement and high performance across the utility workforce.
- Represent the organization in industry forums, regulatory hearings, City Council meetings, and public and community events.
Candidate Prerequistes
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum five (5) years recent experience in managing electric utility operations.
- Minimum five (5) years recent supervisory experience.
- Priority given to applicants with previous municipal power experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Proven managerial experience with the ability to lead and develop teams.
- Ability to implement strategic goals established by the City Council.
- Experience working with labor unions and collective bargaining agreements.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and employee development.
- Dedication to providing excellent customer service.
- Strong communication skills working with contractors and utility vendors.
- Team-oriented approach and collaborative mindset.

Wage & Benefits
2026 Wage Scale is $138,860/yr-$173,576/yr. Starting wage is DOQ.
